Time to start busting Gender Stereotypes!

Palazzo Badini, Ellero Room. 15 November 2018. 

Within the III edition of the Week against violence on women, Social Cooperative Itaca and the Municipality of Pordenone – Equal Opportunities Department set up the first Free to Choose game session mass event at Palazzo Badini, Ellero Room involving 40 students from I.S.I.S. Zanussi.

The testing phase was then followed by a in-depth debriefing where the game masters got crucial feedbacks for keep refining the game board prototype. The event ended with an open discussion led by the journalist Clelia Del Ponte and professor Tindara Abbaddo from UNIMORE University.

FreeToChoose board game: next steps in the testing phase

WS3: Game testing

The FtC board game official experimentation phase will start  in December. In Italy the official sessions will involve several organizations, including the Youth Lab of Cavallino-Treporti (VE), the Progetto Giovani di Treviso and other youth centres managed by Itaca. It is foreseen the participation of high  schools of Pordenone, San Donà di Piave, Treviso, Trieste, Modena and many game associations, too. Besides, the regional center for orientation will be involved and the VET sector. A similar scenario is foreseen in Slovenia and Portugal, the other FtC Countries involved in the experimentation.

Promoting equality by playing? Make it possible with FreeToChoose!

LJUBLJANA (SLOVENIA) – 10 JULY 2018. The FreeToChoose (FTC) dissemination event, organized by Nefiks and hosted at the historical building of the Trubar Literature House, represented an important milestone of the project, since it was the occasion to present two of the main FtC outputs to stakeholders and general public: the results of the sociological research (WS1) and  the test of the board game prototype (WS2). Main guests from public authorities attending the event were Rok Primozic, Director at Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth under the Ministry for Education, Science and Sport, and Katarina Gorenc, Head of Youth Office of the City of Ljubljana.

WS2: Sociological Research – WS3: Game testing – WS4: Dissemination

Benicássim (Spain) – The final prototype of the FreeToChoose (FtC) game board aimed at tackling gender stereotypes among youngsters and adults acting in the educational or orientation field was presented at Rototom Sunsplash Festival in Benicassìm (Spain). The 25th edition of Rototom with its high rate of young participants coming from all over Europe was a perfect location for spreading project results and involving the target audience.

WS1: Sociological Research

Bilbao (Spain) – Marcela Jabbaz, Capitolina Diaz and Anna Giulia Ingellis took part in the XII IberoAmerican Congress of Science, Technology and Gender in Bilbao from the 18th to the 20th of July 2018 where they led the workshop “Anti-stereotypes of gender games: Towards a less biased vision of the professional future”. The workshop was a great opportunity for further presenting the results coming from the sociological research.

4th Transnational Meeting coming up in Ljubljana

LJUBLJANA (SLOVENIA). 9 – 10 July 2018. – Double appointment for Free to Choose on the 9th and 10th of July in Ljubljana, the Slovenian Capital, at Trubarjeva hiša literature Stritarjeva 7, where the 4th transnational project meeting (9th July) and a special public dissemination event (10th July) will see the participation of various institutional representatives including the Slovenian Institute of Employment, the Institute for Study of Gender Equality and KROJ Youth Network for Career Development. Led by Itaca Social Cooperative, Free to Choose aims at overcoming gender stereotypes in youngsters 16-29 years old to make them free to choose their education and professional path.
