BELLUNO, 29 May 2015. Final Infoday for the Bit Generation project: “Promoting Access to the Information Society in mountainous areas” was held at the Segato Technical Institute in Belluno on 29 May 2005. Bit Generation was funded by the Interreg IV Italy-Austria Programme and implemented by a partnership that involved the social cooperative Itaca, Belluno Province and Regionsmanagement Osttirol of Lienz. The closing meeting was attended by the representatives of local authorities, about 90 students, administrators and technical operators.

General objectives:
Bit Generation is born within the “Interreg-Rat Dolomiti Live” network as a response to the need to reduce the digital divide that characterizes mountain territories. The overall objective of the project was to improve cross-border cooperation between different socio-cultural operators within the Dolomiti Live Network in order to provide equal opportunities for access to the information society. In particular, Bit Generation strengthened the exchange of good practices on the implementation of new technologies with particular attention to teleworking and creation of innovative public and private local services.
Specific objectives:
- Promoting the establishment of a cross-border network of public access points (such as libraries, youth hostels, schools, municipal administrations) with wifi connection that can serve as a multipurpose structure for free internet access and ICT training;
- Improving the exchange of good practices and technological know-how between local administrations, decision makers, operators and young people through the realization of joint cultural and training events both in presence and online that focus on specific issues such as the use of new technologies, internet 2.0 as well as other digital opportunities.
Activities:
- Development of a “wiki” platform though which to coordinate the project;
- Organization of a training course for project operators on the use of tele-net-working tools;
- Organization of a kick-off meeting in Belluno with the objective to exchange practices;
- Organization of a “open space conference/bar camp” in Dobbiaco where to exchange views on the strengths and weaknesses of the creation of public access spaces;
- Organization of training laboratories on the use of web 2.0, social networking, i-cloud. At the end of the training a cross-border meeting was held in Lienz, where participants had the opportunity to present their work and to exchange views on the methodologies adopted;
- The launch of a joint contest where young people (15-20 years) focused on innovative ideas and promoted initiatives on information society.
