Itaca is a non-profit organization born in 1992 that aims to pursue the general interest of the community and to promote human and social integration of citizens through the management of health and social services.
Social cooperation developed as a response to socio-economic imbalances. During the last 150 years, the welfare system has produced higher levels of wellbeing as well as greater inequalities. Mission of social cooperatives is therefore to create a more inclusive community through cost-effective and flexible services.
Itaca is mainly involved in educational services and animation to children, disabled persons, elderly care both at home and in structures, social rehabilitation in the field of mental health, services for youth policy, childcare and leisure.
The areas of intervention include the whole region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Eastern Veneto, the province of Bolzano, Milano and Brescia.
Itaca currently employs about 1771 workers, with 83.6% of female representation. We work with 123 public bodies and 1100 private clients. In 2016 we reached 39,157,674 euros in revenue, registering a 2% rise compared with the previous year.
Itaca develops user and family oriented services by devoting attention to real needs, respect for the individual, boosting autonomy and skills.
We plan, organize and monitor every project with well-structured strategic planning. We build solid partnerships and collaborate with diverse public and private actors. Our work is aimed at promoting a better quality of life and a more inclusive community.
The organization consists of six main areas delivering services: residential services for senior citizens, senior community services, daycare centres and social living services for persons with mental disabilities, semi-residential and residential services for disabled, community educational services for minors, youth policies and community development.
Each area has a manager with responsibility for overall coordination, accompanied by area and service structure coordinators, and by coordinators with specific operational tasks, especially in regards to the contact with the worker-members. To respond adequately to our management complexity, our organization has support areas which concern the administration, human resource, training, occupational safety, quality, information system and communication. The organic of the company is very articulate with a top-down structure headed by the Board of Directors (16 members) and a decision-making body: Directorate composed by the President, Director and area managers and by heads of the support offices. We publish the Cooperative’s financial statements and social accountability report every year, a practice that has been followed since 1996.
The quality system used is ISO 9001.
