INSIDE – Social Inclusion for Employability

An estimated 9 million Syrians have fled their homes since the outbreak of civil war in March 2011, taking refuge in neighbouring countries or within Syria itself. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), about 2.5 million have fled to Syria’s immediate neighbours Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. 6.5 million are internally displaced within Syria. Meanwhile, under 100,000 have declared asylum in Europe with a small number offered resettlement by countries such as Germany and Sweden. Therefore, a lot of migrants face to a greater concern of unemployment by the reason of social exclusion.

Understanding that nowadays issues leads to growing needs of youth workers to improve and implement intercultural skills in work with migrants as well as to promote their active participation and social inclusion. New innovative and creative approaches can really have better impact on this, especially to improve the employability skills.

Addressing to a group of youth workers and civil society activists who often face the challenge working with migrants, this training course aimed at fostering their intercultural skills and competences. At the same time TC promoted new innovative ways of increasing employability among migrants through the social inclusion and inter-cultural dialogue. Furthermore this TC provided new tools to improve the work with migrant communities, particularly in the field of social inclusion and intercultural communication.

Cultural effects of migration

“Cultural effects of migration” was the Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Project – Youth Exchange aiming to raise awareness on migration issues and create space for open dialogue, inter-cultural understanding, mutual respect and acceptance of diversity between young people in our countries.

We aimed to empower European youth, by enabling them to raise their cultural awarenesses through a mix of methods of Non-formal learning and using different tools for learning and sharing information.

This Youth Exchange provided space and time to our participants to share their life stories and experiences to enhance their mutual understanding, better inter cultural communications, networking, and friendship.

Project objectives were:

  • To learn about problems resulting from mass emigration;
  • To identify best practice in integration and inclusion of migrants, particularly with reference to East-West migrants;
  • To share examples of successful integration projects for young migrants implemented in EU countries;
  • To address negative portrayal of migrants and migration in media and public opinion;
  • To develop future projects for young migrants using Erasmus+ Programme opportunities.

Contact Making Seminar

CMS took in Gothenburg, Sweden from 9 – 13 of April 2017. April 9th is the arrival day, April 13th – departure day, April 10 – 12 were three networking days.

The goal of CMS:

was to develop a network of reliable partner organisations willing to collaborate in the future project financed by Erasmus+ programme on the topic of intercultural communication and social inclusion or other related topics.

The initial idea was to find partners to work together on a long-term (2 year) project that was supposed to focus on adaptation and upscaling of “Does Culture Matter” training programme to address the needs of organisations working with integration and inclusion on national and international levels.

However, we saw CMS as an opportunity to network and develop other Erasmus + projects on the topics relevant for partner organisations.

About “Does Culture Matter?”:

“Does Culture Matter?” was a training programme realised with the financial support of the European Commission and with participation of European and Asian countries in 2015. As a result of this project we developed a three-phase training course that covered culturally crucial topics relevant across various sectors, such as for profit companies, universities, NGOs and public bodies. Find out more information on the project website doesculturematter.org and in this video.

Tear Down these Walls!

The project involved two training seminars: one in Berlin (04.03- 12.03.2016) and one in Bucharest (05.09 – 12.09.2016) a practice period for new-learned non-formal educational approaches in the home-countries in-between them.

Participants had the possibility to learn, discuss and evaluate a large variety of non-formal pedagogical approaches to deal with the European east-west history and its current consequences. Reflecting on the European history and the still existing stereotypes about the “east” and the “west” is an important part of political education and a great contribute to a peaceful Europe in future.

History – Youth’s Opportunity

The main focus of the exchange was to initiate awareness among young people that through their activities and ideas can change environment in which they live and show to society the possibilities offered by history. At same time through this project young people were strengthening their competences and increasing their employment prospects. We wanted that this project changed the view of history which is only in responsibility of museums.

On project we also discussed the refugee crisis and talked with former refugees from Črnomelj who have been successfully integrated into society.
